Vice-President Antonio Tajani meets UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to discuss Corporate Social Responsibility

At the occasion of the 10th anniversary summit of the United Nations Global Compact in June, European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to discuss Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest voluntary CSR initiative.
Approximately 3.000 European enterprises have signed up to the Global Compact, around 40% of the world total.
In his remarks to the summit meeting, Antonio Tajani stressed the importance of CSR in the content of the current economic climate and restated the EU’s ambition to play a leading role in the promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility at a global level.
He announced his intention to renew European policy on CSR next year, with a focus on issues such as the new UN framework for business and human rights, as well as company transparency on social and environmental issues.

He also announced the forthcoming creation of a European Commission task-force on corporate social responsibility of the pharmaceutical industry to promote access to medicines for people living in developing countries.
