The prisme2 initiative set out to foster Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by involving small and medium sized enterprises from chemical sector in Responsible Care – the global chemical industry’s signature CSR programme.
The main goals of prisme2 were to gather best practices and practical tools useful to SMEs and initiating a Responsible Care networking programme.
By promoting continuous improvement of all activities including safety, health and environmental performance, the project aimed to enhance competitiveness in small chemical businesses and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe.
European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani, in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship said, “Corporate social responsibility has never been more important than in the context of economic crisis. We welcome the efforts of the chemical industry and its stakeholders to support CSR amongst smaller businesses. CSR helps gaining customer confidence and hence opens up opportunities for SMES to grow and create news jobs”.
Lead by CEFIC, the organization representing 27,000 European chemical companies, the 18 month project involved partners from six European countries, Germany, Spain, Unit Kingdom, Greece and Czech Republic and Slovakia. The CEFIC Director General, Alain Perroy, said: “Be responsible and improve your competitiveness. This is the message of prisme2, our project on Corporate Social Responsibility in small chemical businesses. The current year of economic downturn is the right moment for companies to get involved".
